Hi All,

I was thinking of using a GM360 or GM380 to monitor fire fighting here in California.  The USA versions of these only have 64 or 128 channels vs your 255.

My question is many of our (new) VHF narrowband channels have odd center frequencies that don't divide by 5 or 6.25kc.  A good example would be 151.2725 (local water bomber frequency).

The VHF USA CDM1250 and CDM1550 allow you to enter any freq as long as it is divisible by 2.5kc.

Can one of you try entering 151.2725 in to the GM's programming software and tell me if it works?  if so I'll start the hunt for a couple of these.

Thanks in advance Pete (wi6h)

Ive only got uhf radios here, so someone will be along shortly to test and see. from memory, ours are 25 or 12.5 spacings.

Just a word of advice through - if you are going to buy a gp series - one, make sure its not from the far east, as they are all rebuilt radios that arent gp 380s etc. they have hacked firmware, and will die at any given oppertunity.

If you do buy the gp series, be aware that if you need it to be repaired, no us dealer will touch it with a barge pole, and you will end up having to ship it to the uk to have it looked at. I'm not 100% sure, but if its not got any fcc markings on it, then I thought it was illegal to use in the US HuhHuhHuh??

Great, thanks for the far-east warning.

I was only thinking of using it for RX so I don't think FCC type acceptance is an issue.

The unit would be helpful in that California has 100's of VHF fire frequencies state wide and my CDM1550 128 channel radio is full.  Also more channels are on the way as the FCC "narrow-banding" rules start in 2012.

GM3X0 can't do frequencies that don't divide by 5 or 6.25kc.

OK Thanks,

The GM380 would make a great 2m or 70cm radio, not so well as a VHF public safety monitor in our new post 2012 environment.   Is user selectable TPL an option?  Also to these have Zones?

I guess I need to get a copy the EU RSS to see what it will and will not do compared to the USA CDM's   I have been playing with a "D" range CDM1550 as a 6m radio, very sensitive and 65watts from 50-54Mhz, very nice. (plus you can  monitor the C.H.P.)

Thanks for all the info.

No user selectable TPL, no Zones.
