Can these be performed by aftermarket ribs? A friend of mine has one of these ribs and is wondering wether it would accept the upgrade or does it have to a Motorola Product I am not sure  Huh

Not without modification.
There is a pin in the radio connector missing.
It Can be added, and you can add a small switch to be able to activate the flash-mode with.
