Dear Members
We initially started the forum in November 2008 and we have had more and more new members join every month. April 2009 we had over 200 new members join.
The past 3 months we have been using around 3GB per month of bandwidth. However April 2009 we saw a sudden increase of bandwidth usage to just over 10GB for this month, which is very close to our limit for our hosting account.
We tried to contact the provider to ask for more bandwidth but they seem to have gone out of business and this was confirmed when I checked with Companies House.
Due to the increase of traffic we have moved the forum onto a Dedicated Server which allows us more disk space and bandwidth per month; we now have in excess of 2000GB of monthly bandwidth available to the site. This upgrade alone cost us £300.00 extra per year.
We have also chosen to use a new domain name for the forum, which is
http://forum.motorola-radio-support.co.ukWe are currently uploading all the software to the new server of which will be available soon on the new domain. We will provide an update to this once this part of the upgrade is complete and will then confirm the web address fro the downloads.
We have had feedback from members who say the access information to download files is sometimes confusing. Therefore, we are trying to introduce a system where when you get prompted for the username and password when downloading files, you will then only enter your forum username and password in order to gain access.
We are also going to introduce a module for the forum which will allow members to subscribe to the downloads and forum from within there forum control panel
This will then direct you to papal to make the necessary payment and once completed, it will automatically upgrade your forum account and in turn give you access to the download area. This will then become a fully automated system.
Which will save us time and make it easer and quicker for members to download files when required.
We will provide an update when this solution has been completed.
There will also be a number of enhancements to the forum over the coming weeks to provide even more features for the benefit of members.
In the mean time, please bear with us while we do the full upgrade. If you discover any broken links, please let us know so we can fix them.
Regards
Dave
