Hi Guys.

What would you recommend is the best way to program a Motorola GP300 Radio?

Radio in question is model: P94YPC09C2AB which is the 5-Tone variant.

We have 3 other radios (GP300) and one mobile unit (GM340) that are already programmed but just need to sort this one out to get aligned with the rest.

I have a ribless serial cable which works fine with CPS and the GM340. Just dont know what to do about the GP300..

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers
Kev

The programming pins on the GP300 is on the back of the radio, under the battery. There are severel programming cables available on eBay. It is possible to build your own, but since you you have to remove the battery, it may be a bit tricky to connect both the programming leads and supply power at the same time.

I did not find the software on this server, so I uploaded a version I have used previously to the upload area with the filename gp300_select5.zip.

Hi jhb,
Thanks for the reply.

The ribless cable i have has the battery connector on it with power and bus etc.

What system do you recommend to run the software on?

Its a DOS program. I have tried to run the software under Windows without success, so I suggest you boot directly to DOS and run it from there. That also means that you need a computer with a serial port, not a USB to serial converter.

Some older Motorola CPS don't run well on newer computers, but I have not had any such problems with the GP300 CPS. Any computer should do.

You need to use a very old computer for that ( 286 / 486 ) newer ones work too fast.
I use an old 286 with win95 on it ,and when i use the RSS i do it in pure DOS mode.
Worked for me with all Motorola's including the GP300.

Hope that helps....
