Hi I am running mpt r00.07.13 for gp680 and r03.11.15.en for the gp380 with usb cable, I am new to this, I see a few posts on here stated the cps does not work with windows 7 which I am running on a recently new laptop.

when you open up the disc for the usb drivers it gives to options to install
USB vista09 and
USB xp2k09.

can anyone please help me as to WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO READ AND WRITE TO THE RADIOS, on the gp380 it states unable to create unknown radio component and on the gp680 its states uknown com port selected, obviously this is to do with the system as it windows 7?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback many thanks Jonny

The 2 drivers on the disc are for Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Try plugging the USB programming cable in and let Windows 7 find the device and search for the drivers without the disc. If you are using the 64 bit version of Windows 7 the CPS will not work... I can't tell you the reason, but I know many people are having problems with Windows 7 64 bit and CPS.

I still have a machine running windows XP for all of my CPS... I do use a Windows 7 32 bit laptop for programming if im on the road, but the majority is done on my XP machine.

Also what is the codeplug and firmware version on the radio's?

Yes I believe so!

Let us know the outcome... So many people ask one question and then are never seen again! Its good when people report back as it could answer someone else's question in the future  Smiley

Hi Jonny,

I'm guessing you have switched over to the MPT CPS to programme the radio?

Have you selected the correct Comm port? Go to 'file' and 'read radio' this should then display a drop down menu with all of your comm ports. Make sure you have selected the correct one.

From memory MPT CPS is slightly more 'fragile' than the GP series... I remember the first time I programmed a GP640... The CPS read the radio perfectly, however, when I tried to write to the radio it corrupted the codeplug! If I remember rightly the tip is to always use the most recent CPS to avoid this happening. I could be wrong though!

Hi BW many thanks for your reply, yes I am using the mpt cps R00.07.13 to try and program the gp680, when I programmed the gp380 the comm port was number 6 however on the cps mentioned above it only gives comm port numbers 1 to 4 and when I go to device manager it says comm ports 1 to 4 are in use.

i have tried all the comm ports and it keeps giving me the same message as stated before, now occasionally when you try one of the comm ports numbered 1 to 4 it will emit the radio beep normally heard when programming or when radio is detected but then does not progress any further.

I look forwrd to hearing from you

Hi Jonny,

I am not an expert in MPT programming. All that comes to mind is that the radio firmware/codeplug is too old to be read by the CPS... It sounds like you are doing everything right, your cable is fine as it has programmed a 380. It is strange that the CPS is not allowing you to select the comm port that you have previously though!

Maybe one of the other members knows more and could help you further!

Had the same problem with a GP380, but Win7 32-bit fixed it (had to borrow my gf's pc, I have only 64-bit...). However, now it want a password to let me read the radio. Is there any default password?

No default passwords... However you should be able to 'dump' a codeplug over the top of the radio, thus replacing it with your own codeplug.

Have a look in the archive of your CPS, with a bit of luck you will find a codeplug for a GP380 that you can write straight over the top of the previous codeplug.

Will that erase all the data on the radio?
Thanks btw Smiley
And what to look for; "codeplug version", "-size" or "-part no"?

In the archive you are looking for- p_uhf1_N6

This is a default codeplug for a GP380. Open this codeplug and write it to your radio... Then programme this new codeplug to your requirements.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!
How do I prevent the radio from being passwordprotected?
I really don't want to do this all over again...

When you are in the codeplug go to the top of the screen and open 'Feature' (next to File, Edit, View) and select 'Change Radio Password'. As you can see if you set 0 as the parameter there will be no password.
