Sorry if this has been covered before.  I did a search, but couldn't find anything useful.

I need the firmware or tool to convert a GP340 into a GP640.  Does anyone know where I can find this?

I have a flash adapter and the latest CPS.

Thanks  Cheesy

Hi Biggenz,

Have a read though this topic-

http://forum.motorola-radio-support.co.uk/index.php/topic,1171.0.html

It is the reverse to what you want to do, but the principal remains the same. Andreas is really the person to speak to about this sort of stuff... If you get stuck drop him a PM, I'm sure he won't mind helping you.

Hi

I actually read through that topic, but cannot see where to get the upgrade tool from.

I assume this has the firmware to convert a GP340 into a GP640??

You would need a licence from Motorola in order to get the Waris software to flash the radios (in other words you need access to MOL- Motorola Online).

Im not sure if Rob (Admin on the forum) can sell you the flash software... I know he can sort you out with CPS related business, but not sure where you stand with regards to purchasing the flash software! Might be worth dropping Rob a PM (or use the 'Contact Admin Team' tab at the top of the page).

Sadly in todays age we are no longer allowed to 'share' software. Before I joined this forum there was a download section with everything you would need. Motorola caught onto this and, from what I have read and been told, they were in the process of taking legal action against the forum owner. Hence the reason/rules that you cannot canvas for software in an open forum.

Converting a GP340 into a GP640 is not 'common practice', so there is no specific firmware to conduct such a process. The method that Andreas has explained is the way he suggests-and it works, but from an official Motorola perspective they would not want you to be able to do such a thing- and would most probably tell you it is impossible... They would rather you go out and spend more money on a 'proper' GP640!  Roll Eyes

Bearing in mind you will also need the Unofficial Homemade EU Waris Lab Flashkit- which I have no idea where you can get hold of that im afraid  Huh

Have a chat with Rob and see what he suggests!

Cheers for that BW.

I do have access to MOL and have the proper flash adapter, but like you say, no official firmware exists to turn a GP340 into a GP640.

Obviously it can be done as I know a few companies who deliver this service at a cost, but they are keeping the firmware side of things very close to them!  Angry Cheesy

Yes... I know a few companies that have (over the years) developed their own in-house software, and yes they do keep it close to their chests!

Personally, I would think about sending it to one of the dealers who you know can do it for you! Pain in the backside I know... but atleast it will be a quick and hopefully a cheap job!

Ben.
