After being impressed with the nice sexy colour displays of the hyt handsets, Ive seen over on batlabs the mobile new us verison of the dm3600 - the xpr5000 series it would seem.
Do any dealers over this side of the pond have any release information or dates / promo materials on the new range ?

They will be the DM4XXX & DP4XXX
Most of the UK dealers have been made aware of the launch, I beleive there is a press conference very soon confirming all details etc!
Apart from the colour screen and face lift there are no major changes (from what I have been told). Personally from the photos I have seen I dont like the new facia, although the colour screen looks very nice!

Went to an event show yeaterday, and got talking to some 'master' radio dealers.
The new ones will be the DP4000 series. They are described as the american ones we have seen on batlabs.
they are supposed to of been released to the EMEA market by now, but a firmware issue has delayed this somewhat. (described as: you push the ptt, and the display goes blank .... ! )
When asked about the battery compatibility - aparently the units are smaller, and so batteries are different. He was unsure if they would fit the existing chargers, until he actually gets to play with one. From what he's seen, they wont.
The plans for a low tier model, called the DP2000 series, will be coming in early 2012. This will be their entry level units in the digital market.
There will be several models of the 4000 series - one with half display (no full keypad) - think the gp series (360, 380 etc) seems to be what they are aiming for.

Only real way to tell is looking at the firmware version. If its a D version, then its development, and shouldnt be out in 'the open'.
Either someone offered a lot of cash for it, and it got taken off, or someone let the seller know its 'missing', and its been ended.

I've read that these will be available in the New Year but is there a more precise launch date for the UK?
The portable looks smaller than the current DP3600 or is that just the photo playing tricks?

Yes they are smaller and thinner... No firm release date yet- although a little birdie has told me Q1 of 2012.
There are a few of us on here that have 'dibs' on a demo from our various dealers as soon as they are released.

the formal ammouncement for the 2000 series has been made in america, according to the gents over at the batlabs forums.
Its going to be a 'scaled down' version of the dp3400 - no display, but same shape / form factor. (so none of us have to go out and buy loads of new chargers, batteries etc etc etc). even uses the same acc port, so again, same programming lead. Only thing it cant use is public safety mics - so Im thinking theres no aerial output on the side adapter.
Only thing that worries me for us lot, is that I'm thining about going trunked (cap plus) with our kit, and the dealers over the pond seem to think that it wont do that, as its a base model.
Sounds like its going to be about $400 - so £260 over here hopefully !.
I was promised a call back from our dealer for the 4000 series, as motorola were going to see him shortly before christmas. alas, no call yet !.

Very interesting reading. To be honest i thought it would be modelled on the Hytera with the coloured screen.

The new DP4000 series will include a colour screen, but only the top of the range model (expected to be the DP4800). This series is due for launch soon, I am guessing within the next 2-3 months. I have dibs with my dealer to get my hands on a couple of DP4800's for a week or so to see whether they are worth upgrading from DP3600's... I will write a 'report' when I have had a play with them.
The new DP2000 series is aimed at the 'starter' market (think CP range). Less features, but great for say a small business, or a company not needing all the 'bells and whistles' that the 3000 & 4000 does/will offer.

The 4000 series should of been released ages ago, but there were firmware issues.
With the new 2000 series now coming online, I can see it gwtting messy with regards to their offerings.
Good point with the vertex radios - how exactly do they 'fit in' to the plans - they look very much like dp3 series, but with a few less features.
Anyone got a firm release date for the 4000 series ?

I'm hearing between now and March for the 4000. With the launch of the 2000 I would be very surprised if it is any sooner. I agree with you George about messy offerings... I thought with the 3000 series they had hit it spot on, one 'simple' radio and one 'advanced' radio. Nothing complicated, one or the other. Now we are looking at 3 different series's of radios all with different offerings! I totally understand the 2000 series, this makes a nice entry level to digital, but surely this should have been around 2-3 years ago!? In my humble opinion I would retire the 3000 series and run with the 2000 & 4000 series. I was really enjoying the fact that there were only 2 versions of radio available (well 4 with GPS versions). Now we are going back down the route of several radios in each series, which, in reality all do the same job... Minus a colour screen and a few other features! I will be interested how dealers convince buyers to go for the 4000 series as the only new offerings are colour or mono chrome screen (if they want top of the range), built in Bluetooth (in reality I wouldn't use it, not sure about others) and 5-tone decoding... Ok 5-tone is very handy and is possibly the only reason I would consider upgrading. Saying that, I could just have a board fitted to my current radios! However even after my rant I know I will end up buying at least a few DP4800's purely because I want a colour screen lol... Hook, line and sinker Ben
