Hi,
Need a bit of help. I have 8 GP640s, a gp320 and gp380. I would like to setup select calling on the entire lot, however because the 8 640s are MPT signalling versions (with limited conventional options), I can't. Is there a way of 'converting' the 640s into 340s? Would a FW & CP flash do this or would I end up turning them into paper weights? I have CPS ver D03.02.01 and the MPS CPS as well and the WARIS upgrade tool. no flash adaptor yet, but have COM ribless programming cable. I know quite well how to program the radios (both GP3xx and 6xx) but no idea about flashing, so don't want to start playing around. All EMEA region.
Any help or advice would be awsome!
Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick & welcome!
Yes it is possible, not something I have ever needed to do before... However, this topic has been talked about a few times.
Is there anyone out there willing to write a set of instructions and post them up? Maybe Rob would be willing to make it a sticky somewhere?

Instuctions would be brilliant, or even someone who can do it and is willing to do it for a price?
Thanks!

Before you do something, read and save the tuning data! Get the Unofficial Homemade EU Waris Lab Flashkit. Start the upgradetool and program the radio with a proper codeplug (Phase 3). After this is done set the regionalcode. Start the upgradetool and flash the firmware. Read the radio with the tuner and set the serial number of the radio. Load the tuning data from HD and program the radio with it.

Thanks for that Andreas!
Any chance of making it a sticky Rob? Or maybe putting it in the members area?

Great!
Couple of questions though. I don't have a flash adaptor, I have a programming cable from serial to radio (not usb). By the sounds of it, I would be unwise to try to flash the firmware or codeplug using this. However, is there a way of "adapting" this cable to work? or just get the flash adaptor?
Other question, is that you say phase 3 codeplug....what is that? I have a long list of available codeplug version (off the Waris upgrade kit), e.g. "pmud1488a_h25kdc9an3.....etc etc etc. Now i know that some are for GP320s, GP380s, VHF, UHF....etc. All the radios I have are: PMUE1436A, h25rdc9ck3 (obv MPT version)....so which codeplug do I use? Or am I selecting the "closest matched GP340 version like: PMUE1440A, h25rdc9an3?
One more question, i have CPS version: D03.02.01. The folder in the waris upgrade kit says: R03.10.03, for both codeplug and firmware. Will my CPS program this?
I sound like a complete idiot, and like I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm reasonably electronic and computer savvy but haven't done this before and you guys know a lot more about it than I do...
Sorry yet another thing, when you say the tuning data, what program do I use to do that? and then also to write the serial number?
Thanks for help!

You can put a switch into your cable (gnd/bootstrap),or use the UNIRIB (schematic is on my homepage). The old phase 1/2 codeplugs have a different structure than phase 3 codeplugs. You have to set the checkbox to phase 3 in the upgradetool! PMUE1440A should be the right one. Waris radios, made after December 2004 have a different hardware. If you have a frequency shift problem, after the conversation, try a B or C one. Use the latest GM/GP3xx (R03.11.15) CPS to program the radio,if you use the latest firmware/codeplug,from the Lab Upgradetool. Use the ENVN4019S firmware/codeplug,from the lab upgradetool,if you want to use your old CPS.

Thanks for all the help.
I have managed to successfully convert one of the 640s into a 340!! Perfect. Also did the conversion on the programming cable, to allow bootstrap mode. A little fiddly but all good!!
Thanks very much
