Hi i am trying to program my GM360 and 380 using motorola cps version R03.11.15 and using a rib-less multi programming cable. when i connect the radio to the pc, with the power on it comes up with an error message it says cannot connect to radio, check rib, radio, power and pc connection.
when the radio is connected with the power on the red light on the gp300 battery connector is on constant and when i press read radio the green light flashes but then it comes up with the error message. your help would be very appreciated

I get that error when it cant connect via the correct virtual com port.
Not having used the ribless 'multi' cable (i use a genuine motorola cable and a cheap crappy serial to usb from maplin) - does the red led illuminate on the 300 connector whenever you plug it in, or does it only do it when trying to read ?
ave you used this cable on this computer to program anything before - the programming software never detects the cable on mine, and if I plug it into a different usb, Ive got to click file then read radio, and select one of the com ports - sometimes it takes ages before I get the correct one !.
If its trying to read the radio, theres usually a big delay (10 seconds or so) before it comes up with that error. If its trying to read it from a non existant com port, then you get the error immediately.
Try selecting some other ports. I cant remember off the top of my head how to see what port s mapped to what usb outlet, but if you let us know what verison of windows you are on, Im sure I can have a dig around for you.

the red light comes on when i turn the power on the radio and it stays on till i turn it off.
i have never used this pc to read anything before i did use the cable on an older pc to programme a gp300 and it did work.
it does take about 10 seconds or so then the error pops up.
as im using the rj45 there is only one port i can use, do you think it would be worth getting the usb to rj45 adapter to try?
cheers Dan

sounds like its at least trying to read off the radio. Ive never used one of the multi ones - perhaps its an idea to get a ribless one from fleabay, just for the gp340 etc series. the way some of the stuff from hong kong is wired is 'interesting' to say the least !
