hi to all
i have 3 x so called GP340...i have found out that they are really GP328. anyway the fuse FS501 has blown.metered the switch side and could not find any shorts, so replaced said fuse. RED L.E.D comes on and stays on. cannot read/write or do anything. as a non motorola engineer who hates to be beatin...i cannot determine which path to follow next. all voltages seem to be there...mind you after saying that, if i put the battery onto the radio i get nothing at all. external power supply , red led on all the time. anyone point me in the right direction please.
regards
mick

can i assume that no one out there does component level repairs, or is willing to point me in the right direction ? i can only assume the correct answer would be to send the item back to motorola ? hi to all

Hi Mick,
Theres nobody I know of in the UK who does a component level service apart from motorola themselves. They offer a fixed fee service, so its easy just to send them back and have them done (or, swapped out, as they usually do).
I appreciate in your situation, where you have been screwed with regards to them being 328's, Im not sure if you do send them back, if they will even touch them, or simply say 'not EMEA product, shouldnt even be here', and wont do anything with them.
Sorry for the bearer of bad news - if you do find anyone who will repari at that sort of level, please let us know here, so we can direct people to them. I know protea does repairs (see the banner on top), but again, I dont know how 'deep' they can go. Might be worth an email.
George

is it possible to force a firmware software into one of these and if so, could some one explain in detail. i have watched the online flashing tutorial, but it does not explain how to force firmware into radio.

Hi Mick The GP328 (as far as I know) has a smaller flashROM on board, so it doesn't have enough space to accept the 5tone firmware. Because the firmware is MDC1200 based, it uses less ROM space. I may be wrong, but I have played around with this a bit.
